KENWOOD — A 15-year-old boy was killed and another was wounded in a shooting in Kenwood early Sunday morning, police said.

At 12:50 a.m., the boys were walking in an alley in the 4700 block of South Ellis Avenue when someone shot at them from a passing red minivan, according to a preliminary police incident report.

One boy, 15, was pronounced dead after being shot in his head, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Travon Smith of the 7300 block of South Dorchester Avenue.

The other boy, 16, was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound in his leg, police said. Police could not immediately provide the boy's condition.

No one is in custody, police said.
