NORTH PARK — The community is invited to Thursday's "Speak Up and Speak Out" event at Northeastern Illinois University, organized in the wake of recent police-involved shootings.

Students, faculty, staff and neighbors will gather from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pedroso Center (Building B, see campus map) to air their concerns and share ideas on how to promote change, according to a university spokesman.

The purpose of the event is "to provide a safe space to heal," according to organizers.

Sharon Bethea, NEIU associate professor of counselor education, will facilitate the discussion.
