WEST RIDGE — The Chicago Police Department is joining the family of 61-year-old Victor Noriega in asking for the public's help in identifying the car that hit and critically injured him on July 4.
Police said the car involved in the crash is a 2015-17 blue-gray Hyundai Sonata that may have damage on the driver side door. The car is missing its driver side mirror.
Noriega was struck while crossing the street around 9:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Peterson Avenue after leaving a Fourth of July celebration with family and friends nearby, police and family said.
After striking Noriega, police said the driver fled west on Peterson before turning and heading north on Talman Avenue without stopping to help or saying who he or she was.
According to police records, Noriega was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. On July 6, his family told DNAinfo he was "stable," but remained in the intensive care unit.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department's major accident investigation unit at 312-745-4521.
