WEST RIDGE — The family of 61-year-old Victor Noriega is on the lookout for the driver who struck him Monday at Peterson Avenue and Rockwell Street before fleeing the scene.

Gil Noriega, Victor's nephew, said Noriega had left a backyard barbeque with friends and family around 9:15 p.m., when a dark-colored vehicle hit him in the 2600 block of West Peterson Avenue.

According to police records, Noriega was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his family said he is "stable," but remains in the intensive care unit.

Noriega's nephew also said two witnesses told police Noriega may have been trying to cross the street against the traffic light when he was hit.
