Markius Woods Dies After Being Pulled From Water At 31st Street Beach

OAKLAND — A 32-year-old man died after he and another man were rescued from Lake Michigan at 31st Street Beach Monday night.

Rescue teams rushed to the beach Monday night after reports of two swimmers in distress, police said.

Paramedics tried unsuccessfully at 8:30 p.m. to resuscitate Markius Woods of the 2100 block of South Christiana Avenue, and he was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, according to officials.

The second man, an unidentified 25-year-old, was also pulled from the lake and was taken to Mercy Hospital where his condition was listed as “stable.”
