COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A West Pullman man is accused of jumping on a Chicago Police car and shouting obscenities after officers questioned and released him early Tuesday.

"All he had to do was keep walking," Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas said during a bond hearing Tuesday. "I don't know where we are in society that people think it's OK to do that to police."

Officers had stopped Joshua Anderson, 20, for an "investigatory stop" about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report.

It's not clear why officers questioned Anderson in the 12000 block of South Emerald Avenue, but his ID soon came back "clear," the report said: no warrants, no gang affiliation, no parole. He was free to go.

But as the officers drove away, Anderson smacked the squad-car spotlight, jumped on the hood of the vehicle and shouted "F--- 12" (slang for "F--- the police), court records show.

That's when officers arrested Anderson and found a Ziploc bag of PCP in his left pocket, police said.

Anderson, of the 12000 block of South Union Avenue, now faces charges of reckless conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

In court Tuesday, his public defender said Anderson works 60 hours a week in landscaping.

Chiampas said Anderson could be released on his own recognizance so long as the Cook County Sheriff's Office provides electronic monitoring. The judge said she hopes Anderson can keep his job; she is requiring Anderson to provide proof of employment at his next court date.

Anderson isn't the only person accused of attacking a squad car during the long holiday weekend. On Sunday, someone threw a firecracker — later described as a "half stick of dynamite" — at a squad car in South Shore. The firecracker exploded and damaged the vehicle.
