LOGAN SQUARE — L'Patron, a hugely popular Logan Square taco and burrito joint, is opening a new location in the neighborhood.

The restaurant, which is known for its carne asada, will celebrate with a grand opening Saturday at the new location, 3749 W. Fullerton Ave.

To celebrate the new spot, the restaurant is offering 99 cent asada tacos all day Saturday.

The new location will be bigger than the current L'Patron at 2815 W. Diversey Ave., and will include a back patio.

There will also be additional menu items at the new location.

"We will explode your taste buds and I Guarantee it!" said a Facebook post announcing the opening.

The restaurant, in announcing the new location on Facebook, replied to some commenters that the landlord of the Diversey location was seeking an 80 percent rent increase. Ernesto Gonzalez, owner and chef at the beloved taco spot, told the Tribune negotiations with the landlord at their original spot are ongoing but "it doesn't look too good."

"...with the 80% rent increase it was either this or $6 tacos," L'Patron told fans in one Facebook reply. "Trust me it will be worth the drive."

L'Patron, which opened in late 2012, has quickly grown into a neighborhood staple for tacos, tortas and burritos and already expanded once shortly after opening its original tiny takeout storefront.

The restaurant's carne asada burrito was named the 6th best burrito in the country by The Daily Meal last year.
