Woodlawn Shooting Wounds Woman, 54, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 54-year-old woman was standing outside in Woodlawn when she was hit by a stray bullet Saturday, police said.

At 3:30 p.m., the woman was standing outside a store in the 6400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when a group of men began firing shots, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The woman was hit in her knee and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was not released but she was listed as "stable," Tannehill said.

The woman was not the intended target, police said.

No one was in custody in the shooting.
