CHICAGO — A possible robbery attempt led to the shooting of a 19-year-old in Portage Park late Thursday, police said.

At 11:40 p.m., a 28-year-old man was walking to a car in a parking lot in the 4000 block of North Laporte Avenue when two men walked up to him, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The men had guns and they got into a fight with the 28-year-old man.

The 28-year-old man pulled out a gun and fired shots, hitting one of the men, 19, in his neck, Estrada said. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. The other person ran away.

The men might have been trying to rob the 28-year-old, police said.
