HYDE PARK — It’s almost never too late to join the 4th on 53rd Old Fashioned Fourth of July Parade and Picnic, a 25-year-old parade where people can jump in and march.

Thursday, though, is the last day for people to sign up to volunteer.

Those who also want to help out should contact volunteer coordinator Laura Staley at lstaley@gmail.com by Thursday.

Anyone can jump in during the parade and march around the neighborhood to Nichols Park.

This year’s parade starts at 11 a.m. in the Hyde Park Bank building parking lot at 54th Street and Old Lake Park Avenue, where kids can decorate their bikes before the parade. The procession then winds down 54th Street to Lake Park Avenue and down to 55th Street. From there it heads over to Hyde Park Boulevard to 53rd Street where it heads west to Nichols Park for post-parade festivities.

At the park, there will be a patriotic sing-along with the Gilbert and Sullivan Co. and performances by Steve Thomas and the Hyde Park Hot Five Plus Two and Bryant and the Blues Kings.

Local groups including Fitzgerald Martial Arts, Kenwood School of Ballet, Tsukasa Taiko Drummers, Chaturanga, Zumba, Hyde Park Players, Technique Gems and Hyde Park School of Dance will also perform.
