EAST VILLAGE — Half of the profits from sales of S'mores-inspired desserts at Homestead on the Roof and West Town Bakery will go to a nonprofit group that helps city kids go to camp this summer.

The Camp Out for Kids S'mores campaign starts on Thursday and ends Aug. 31.

During that time, patrons of Homestead on the Roof and West Town Bakery can buy S’mores-themed desserts crafted by executive pastry chef Chris Teixeira, who has created his own take on the nostalgic snack made over a campfire.

The Wicker Park-based nonprofit, Camp Out For Kids — which exists to give children in underserved communities the experience of summer camp — has raised over $800,000 and sent over 2,000 kids to camps around the country since its inception in 2008, according to its website.

West Town Bakery & Diner, 1916 W. Chicago Ave., is selling the S'mores Doughssant.

Prepared with croissant dough proofed and fried like a doughnut and filled with chocolate and vanilla cream, then drizzled with dark chocolate, the S'mores Doughssant costs $3.50.

Homestead on the Roof, 1924 W. Chicago Ave., is selling S'mores beignets.

Made of vanilla dough, marshmallow cream and a 64 percent dark chocolate dipping sauce, Homestead’s S’mores beignets cost $10 before tax.
