LINCOLN PARK — A Lincoln Park nursery is seeking approval to move and build an addition, according to the office of Ald. Michele Smith (43rd).

Park West Cooperative Nursery School wants to move from its location of 45 years inside Saint Pauls United Church of Christ, 2335 N. Orchard St., to a building at 2214 N. Bissell St.

The nursery is seeking city approval to build an addition in the back of the new property, Smith said.

"A few years ago, the church determined it needed the space currently leased to us to move forward with its own plans for growth," Jane Nolan, director of the nursery, said in a prepared statement.

Nolan said the new location is a "perfect fit" for the nursery's needs.

Under the city's municipal code, day care and education facilities don't need zoning approval to operate on residential blocks.

A community meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday in Room 103 of DePaul University’s arts and letters building, 2315 N. Kenmore St.

The meeting will be hosted by Smith's office and the Sheffield Neighbors Association.

Park West Cooperative Nursery School was founded in 1971 by a group of parents.

"We are committed to continuing our tradition of being good neighbors and a positive influence on the Lincoln Park community," Nolan said.
