WICKER PARK —  Is Thursday the new Friday?

If you are looking to kick off the summer weekend, there is plenty to do on Thursday in the Wicker Park and Bucktown area. And the weather, at least so far, calls for no rain.

Here are a few events.

Watch "Beetlejuice" in the Park. A summer of movies starring Winona Ryder kicks off in Wicker Park's namesake park. Pack a picnic dinner or buy one from Big Star, Tamale Spaceship, Craft Pizza, Native Foods, Piece — all within a few blocks of the park— and head to the softball field. Pro tips: The earlier the better as prime spots get snagged fast; clean up after the movie because trash cans fill up quickly, too. Movie starts at dusk, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:02 p.m., 1425 N. Damen Ave.

Sample FREE Whiskey. Fresh Thyme's "Whiskey and Women" will give those over 21 a chance to sample some of the city's best locally made whiskeys from local mixologists, according to an event listing that promises "everything whiskey... straight, cocktails and even desserts." Free but online RSVP suggested. Runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., 2500 N. Elston Ave.

Go to The Prom at the Extended (Again) 'Saved by the Max' pop-up.  Though dinner reservations are sold out through Aug. 31, the diner's "Bayside After Dark" programming calls for School Spirit Night on Thursday. This Thursday will offer a prom night, so formal dress-up is encouraged. Pro tip: If you have not been able to get a seat at the diner, the online booking now accepts reservations through Dec. 29. Prom starts at 11 p.m., 1941 W. North Ave.
