WICKER PARK —  There is a dizzying number of community-produced events happening in Wicker Park's namesake park this summer, including a "Movies in the Park" series of flicks starring Winona Ryder that's expected to attract big crowds.

Recently, the Park District announced the full lineup for the five movies, to be shown in the park, 1425 N. Damen Ave., just south of the CTA Blue Line Damen "L" stop.

June 16

"Beetlejuice," from 8:30-10:02 p.m.

June 23

"Mermaids," from 8:30-10:20 p.m.

June 30

"Edward Scissorhands," from 8:30-10:15 p.m.

July 19

"Frankenweenie," from 8:15-9:42 p.m.

Aug. 4

"Star Trek (2009)," from 8:15-10:22 p.m.

The Wormhole Coffee and Scone City have footed the bill for three of the five flicks, while several other sponsors will fund the other two movies.

The cost to sponsor a single movie is $1,250, or $1,000 for three or more, and proceeds are given to the Park District, Doug Wood, president of the Wicker Park Advisory Council, said.

Ryder is an actress whose heyday was in the '80s and '90s, when she starred in several blockbusters and cult hits.

Travis Schaffner, owner of The Wormhole, had the idea for the Winona Ryder theme. In previous summers, Schaffner also masterminded the "Summer of Earl Jones" and a Robin Williams tribute series.

Along with movies, there are several other events happening in the park. See the full summer events calendar.
