WEST TOWN — A shooting along Ashland Avenue in West Town Wednesday morning left two men injured and the shooter in police custody, according to police.

Around 10:30 a.m., three men were "involved in a verbal dispute" in the 600 block of North Ashland Avenue and both were shot, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

One man suffered a gunshot wound in his left arm, while the other was wounded in the left shoulder, and both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, she said.

The attacker was put into police custody and a gun was found at the scene, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. Charges are pending, she said.

An employee of the Tiger Auto Parts and Repair at 707 N. Ashland Ave. identified the victims as the owner of the auto shop and a son of the owner.

A witness who works nearby and asked not to be named said he was trying to take a short nap inside his parked car when he heard two gunshots.

"I saw a guy who was shot in the leg running, or trying to, south down Ashland and another guy walking across the intersection toward the Tiger Auto Parts store and he had a hole in his left shoulder with blood around the shoulder," said the witness. "He looked like he was in pain and he looked like he was in shock."

The witness said someone standing in front of Laredo Lock at 650 N. Ashland, ran inside the shop and came back out to flag down police.

The witness described the incident as "a beef between neighbors."

Calls to Laredo Lock were not returned and the business appeared to be closed. Police were inside investigating Wednesday morning.
