LAKEVIEW — A 19-year-old man was shot on the lakefront near Addison Street late Saturday night, police said.

Around 10 p.m., the man was standing near the Waveland Park Tennis Courts when he was approached by four men and a "dispute" ensued, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

A witness told the Tribune she saw a man being chased by at least two other men with guns, and that the man left a long trail of blood behind him.

The man went to Weiss Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound in his leg, Zala said. Police could not provide his condition but said he was "stable."

A bullet from the shooting pierced the window of a high-rise apartment building in the 3400 block of North Recreation Drive, Zala said. No one inside the apartment was hurt.

On Wednesday, police announced the creation of a Summer Mobile Patrol Unit to crack down on lakefront crime.

A man was charged last week after allegedly trying to fire a gun on Oak Street Beach, and a massive brawl on North Avenue Beach left four people hospitalized over Memorial Day Weekend.
