COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A suburban man caused a panic at Oak Street Beach late Monday when he pulled a gun during an argument and pulled the trigger twice, authorities said.

Though the .25 caliber Beretta handgun was loaded with four live rounds, it didn't fire, according to an arrest report.

Police arrested 18-year-old Maurio Young, who was still carrying the loaded Beretta handgun, about 9 p.m. Monday in the 1000 block of North Lake Shore Drive, court records show.

According to police and prosecutors, Young got into an argument with a 23-year-old Austin man on Oak Street Beach late Monday.

At some point during the confrontation, police said, Young pointed a gun at the man and pulled the trigger twice. It's not clear why the gun didn't fire.

Prosecutors said the incident caused a panic on the crowded Gold Coast beach. The 23-year-old man was able to flag down officers and point out Young, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs 310 pounds, according to an arrest report.

Young, of suburban South Holland, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a gun without a valid FOID card.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas set bail at $75,000. Should Young post bond, the judge said, he must adhere to a 24/7 curfew and wear an electronic-monitoring bracelet.

On Friday, a fight on North Avenue Beach left four people hospitalized and led to three arrests.

Wednesday afternoon, Police Supt. Eddie Johnson unveiled details of the department's "summer deployment initiative" designed to crack down on crime.
