CHICAGO — A 37-year-old woman died on the tracks near the Addison Blue Line station early Saturday.
At 1 a.m., the woman was in the 3600 block of West Addison at the Blue Line Station when she fell onto the tracks, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
The woman worked for the CTA signaling trains, according to the Sun-Times.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Lemmon said. She was identified as Pearl Hendrix, of Markham, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.
"The CTA expresses its sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Hendrix," the CTA said in a statement released Saturday afternoon.
"Safety is CTA's No. 1 priority. All CTA employees undergo comprehensive training with a significant focus on safety, including customized training for all rail employees. We continue to thoroughly examine all the factors that led to this tragic incident," the statement said.
Earlier, the CTA tweeted that an employee had been injured on the tracks, causing delays.
Some Blue Line trains are operating with residual delays after an earlier injured employee near Addison.
