LINCOLN PARK — A Portland, Ore.-based lighting and home goods retailer has chosen Lincoln Park for its first Chicago store.

Rejuvenation will take over the former American Eagle Outfitters at 1000 W. North Ave. by November, according to a company spokeswoman.

The 6,000-square-foot store will sell both new and restored vintage lighting and home goods, including furniture, accessories and hardware.

Rejuvenation was launched in 1977 by Jim Kelly in Portland as a "specialized junk store" using salvaged hardware and fixtures for people renovating old houses. Kelly, who has described himself at the time as "a longhaired hippy," opened his shop in an old tavern with a $1,000.

The company later began making new but vintage-looking lighting and other home goods reproductions.

Rejuvenation was purchased by home goods giant Williams-Sonoma in 2011. The company operates six other retail locations across the country.

It's the latest home goods store to open in Lincoln Park, which is home to a growing design district. Other retailers like West Elm, CB2 and Design Within Reach are all nearby.
