CHATHAM — A 43-year-old man was found dead in his home with a gunshot wound in his head late Sunday night, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 43-year-old Anreco Nichols.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, officers walked into Nichols' residence in the 8100 block of South Harvard Avenue after relatives had reported him missing, according to Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Nichols was pronounced dead on the scene, Quaid said.

Police launched a non-criminal death investigation, but medical examiners ruled the death a homicide Monday.

Carlos James Hemphill, 33, was shot to death on the same block in February.
