Austin Shooting Kills Anthony Howard, 35, Police Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in Austin left a 35-year-old man dead early Saturday, police said.

At 2:50 a.m., police were responding to a call of a person shot when they found the man in an alley in the 200 block of North Laramie Avenue, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man had been shot in the back of his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lemmon said.

The man was identified as Anthony Howard, of the 100 block of South Parkside, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Howard was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m. of a gunshot wound to his head in a homicide.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

No one was in custody.
