LINCOLN PARK — Police are investigating a string of armed robberies in Lincoln Park in late May.

In all of the incidents, the robber approached the victim, took out a handgun and demanded personal belongings, according to a police alert issued Tuesday.

The robberies occurred in the:

• 800 block of West Belden Avenue on May 21 at approximately 10 p.m.

• 2200 block of North Bissell Street on May 23 at approximately midnight

• 1900 block of North Lincoln Park West on May 29 at approximately 1 a.m.

The first two happened on or near DePaul University's campus.

Police describe the suspects as two men between 17-23 years of age, average height and weight, wearing all dark clothing.

Lincoln Park resident Diana, who declined to provide her last name, said she was "very surprised" to hear about people being robbed at gunpoint near her home of four years.

"It's a very busy area. Usually I always think of the busy areas as being safer," she said.

Jeff Bruno, 44, who recently moved into a high-rise building near the 1900 block of North Lincoln Park West with his girlfriend, pointed to the warm weather as a possible reason for the crimes, saying "It's just starting to get nice out."
