LINCOLN PARK — After a decade of calling Old Town home, stationery shop Greer is packing up and moving to smaller digs in Lincoln Park.

The independently-owned shop, which sells a variety of paper goods like cards, wrapping paper and journals, is moving from its longtime home at 1657 N. Wells St. to a much smaller space at 1013 W. Webster Ave., according to owner Chandra Greer, who is aiming for a late August opening.

The new shop is about half the size of the Old Town location, which is the point of the move, Greer said.

"I really have come to the realization that bigger is not better," Greer said. "I think better is better. I think that we can be better in a smaller space and that is a better use of our resources."

Greer said she had an "epiphany" when she visited shops similar to Greer in New York that were tiny and packed with "the best of the best" paper goods.

Moving to a smaller space will allow Greer and her team to focus on stationery and office supplies, which is "what [the shop] does best," she said. That means less gift items, kitchen accessories and other items that don't fit into either category.

In the meantime, Greer is offering deep discounts on everything from wrapping paper and greeting cards to the shop's light fixtures through June 25. All of the sale items are at least half off, Greer said.

Customers can also visit the shop's website, which will remain up throughout the move.

Though Greer said she'll miss Old Town, she's excited for what's to come.

"We hope [our customers] will follow us to the new location. We're hoping we can offer even more and a better selection of what they like," she said.
