LAKE MICHIGAN —  Few things define summer in Chicago more than a lazy cruise on Lake Michigan.

But fast rides are more fun.

Pro sailors showed off their skills on a sunny Wednesday in advance of next month's America's Cup races in Chicago. The June 11 and 12 races are the first on fresh water for the America's Cup, a 165-year series between the world's best sailors and the oldest international trophy in sports.

"Those boats literally fly above the water," said Todd Reynolds, director of the America's Cup races in Chicago.

The races will pit five-man crews sailing 45-foot-long, 2,500-pound catamarans more than 40 miles per hour on the lake. They'll do laps between Navy Pier and Monroe Harbor, where spectators can dock their boat to a floating party barge with a DJ

Race officials say the sailors have to be in peak condition to commandeer the boats, and hosted a practice last week to show why. But if anything else, the video above or slideshow below show the city in its summertime splendor.
