WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — The CAPS office working with police in the Morgan Park District will host a summer kickoff party from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Third Baptist Church in Washington Heights.

The event will be in the parking lot of the church at 1551 W. 95th St. in Washington Heights. It is part of a city-wide effort dubbed, "Chicago's Summer of Faith and Action Kickoff."

The free party is being called "Making Peace with the Police." It's meant to give neighborhood residents, business owners, children and police an opportunity to interact.

Chicago police horses and dogs will be at the event, along with the bomb and arson unit that will showcase its bomb-detecting robot, said Sister Pat Mahoney of Beverly.

Mahoney is the chairwoman of the Morgan Park District CAPS advisory council and is organizing the event through the group's diversity and inclusion committee. She said the evening is being modeled after National Night Out, which drew a crowd last summer outside of the police station at 1900 W. Monterey Ave.

Like that event, the upcoming summer kickoff party will have inflatable jump houses and games for children along with free food and other activities, she said.

For more information, call the district CAPS office at 312-745-0620.
