WASHINGTON PARK — An 18-year-old man was shot to death a block away from Washington Park Tuesday night, police said.

Around 8:10 p.m., the man was standing in an alley near the 5700 block of South Calumet Avenue when someone walked up and shot at him, according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his chest, Lemmon said. He was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as Trevonne Austin, of the 7900 block of South Aberdeen, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Austin was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. of a gunshot wound.

No one is in custody, police said.
