Man Dies 2 Months After Being Shot In Back Of The Yards

BACK OF THE YARDS — A 27-year-old man died nearly two months after he was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, officials said.

Around 5 a.m. on March 20, the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 4900 block of South Laflin Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood when someone shot him in his chest, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. 

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was listed in critical condition.

The man was pronounced dead on May 16, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was identified as Eric O'Reilly, of the 4800 block of South Laflin Street.

Police said the man was a documented gang member.
