BRIDGEPORT — There's a new hot dog stand coming to the neighborhood, and you might say this one comes straight from the source.

Vienna Beef plans to open an official Factory Store on Memorial Day weekend at 3847 S. Morgan St. — across the street from the longtime Chicago company's new manufacturing and distribution facility.

Taking over the former home of Teddy's Mexican-American Grill, the 1,700-square-foot store will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Inside the store, patrons will find six stools where they can sit and enjoy hot dogs and sandwiches made with the company's signature corned beef and pastrami.

The hot dog stand is a pared-down variant of Vienna Beef's factory cafe at 2501 N. Damen Ave. Though the company decided to move its manufacturing facility to the South Side, the original factory store will remain in Bucktown.

Vienna Beef bosses say they aren't looking to compete with the neighborhood's many hot dog stands.

"We want to offer our products to people who want them," Jan Wix, a Vienna Beef spokeswoman and one of the stand's designers. "It's a Vienna Beef grocery store."

The store will sell 2-pound portions of salami and bologna, mini versions of the 5-pound portions you'll find at the deli.

Behind the counter as general manager will be Denise Parente, a Bridgeport native.
