EDGEBROOK — Local Goods Chicago, which became a fixture in Downtown Edgebrook after its 2012 opening, is moving.

But not very far.

The store dedicated to all things made by Chicago artists will move about a block west to 5422 W. Devon Ave. next to the Edgebrook post office, owner Laura Clarke Guenther said.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to change things up," Guenther said.

The store's new location is about the same size, but has been recently renovated after being vacant for approximately 30 years.

"The rent isn't as expensive, and I hope there will be more foot traffic there," Guenther said.

All of the items for sale at Local Goods Chicago are handcrafted or made by Chicagoans. The storefront is set up as a series of mini-shops, like at a craft fair, for artists to display their work for sale.

The store also hosts workshops and classes taught by artists and local experts.

But despite Guenther's excitement about the move, she is dismayed that it will leave another vacant storefront in the Edgebrook business district.

Guenther helped found Everyday Edgebrook in 2015 to attract more foot traffic to the business district around Devon and Central avenues, to help the "brick and mortar" businesses in Edgebrook rack up more sales.

The group broke away from the Edgebrook Chamber of Commerce after a disputed board election.

Guenther said the new storefront will open in June.

Local Goods Chicago opened a second location in March near Loyola University's Rogers Park campus.
