RAVENSWOOD — A "suspicious person" approached children at two neighborhood elementary school playgrounds, prompting police to issue a community alert.

The incidents took place April 19 at Ravenswood Elementary, 4332 N. Paulina St., and May 5 at McPherson Elementary, 4728 N. Wolcott Ave.

Police described the suspect as a 20- to 25-year-old white or Hispanic man with short black hair, wearing jeans and T-shirt and driving an older turquoise Oldsmobile.

At Ravenswood's playground, the man walked up to a group of children and a parent, claiming to be a movie star and asking about the school's hours. The parent walked the suspect off the lot.

At McPherson, the man walked around the playground saying "Hi" to the children and claimed to be inspecting the equipment when confronted by an adult, according to police.

The man left the playground but was later seen walking around the area.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200. Anonymous tips can be sent to tipsoft.com.
