LAKEVIEW — There's a pretty sweet reason to stop by Stan's Donuts when it opens in East Lakeview later this month.
One of the first 100 people in line at 3300 N. Broadway on May 21 will win doughnuts for life, a grand prize that has worked out pretty well for the inaugural winner, Katharine Izard.
Izard showed up at 5 a.m. to the October opening of Stan's Donuts at Clark, Diversey and Broadway. The early risers are rewarded with mystery gift envelopes with prizes like a free doughnut or T-shirt.

Stan's has continued to offer the prize at its new locations, following the Lakeview store with its fourth Chicago outlet in the South Loop Jan. 16.
The fifth Stan's will open at Broadway and Aldine at 6:30 a.m. May 21, just north of The Nettelhorst School.
The Los Angeles-based Stan's Donuts offers up to 35 varieties of old-fashioneds, fritters and twists. Its signature pockets also come packed with flavors like peanut butter, Nutella and Biscoff cookie butter.
The former Caribou Coffee location has gone through a fast remodel, with work starting earlier this year. The first Lakeview location went through six months of delays stemming from permitting issues, the company said.
