PORTAGE PARK — "A Princess Bride"-themed fundraiser set for May 19 will raise money for the Chicago Fringe Festival, organizers said.

Five Chicago acting troupes will get 10 minutes to recap and perform one-fifth of the cult classic, beloved as much for its wordplay as its swordplay and romance. The performance of the entire movie will take just one hour, organizers said.

Tickets for the event set to take place at 7:30 p.m. May 19 at the Filament Theatre, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave., are $35 in advance or $40 at the door, organizers said.

The groups to be featured are pH Comedy Theater, American Theater Company Apprentices, InGen Productions, Lights Out Theatre Company and Dynamic Queens, officials said.

Included in the ticket price are two drinks, food and access to the show and silent auction. A raffle will also take place.

The festival, which will return to Jefferson Park for the fourth straight year, will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 11.

But organizers are looking for a new place to base the festival, since the owners of Fischman's Liquors announced earlier this week they planned to close the bar because of a rent dispute.

Festival organizers are "in the beginning stages of figuring out a plan" to relocate Fringe Central, said executive director Anne Cauley.

"We are really devastated on multiple levels," Cauley said.
