Van Crashes Into Humboldt Park's Senor Pan Restaurant

HUMBOLDT PARK — A violent early morning collision sent a van crashing through the front of Senor Pan in Humboldt Park on Monday.

A 28-year-old woman who was driving without a license crashed into the van, which was parked near the Cuban restaurant, causing the van to crash into the restaurant, police said.

The van, a 2002 Ford, was still inside the restaurant, 2615 W. North Ave., Monday afternoon.

Police said the woman whose car crashed into the van about 3:40 a.m. was injured and taken to Stroger Hospital.

Police did not have information on the woman's condition, but said she is expected to appear in traffic court for a citation of driving without a license July 1.

The owner of Senor Pan said he woke up to a phone call informing him of the crash early Monday.

"It's a lot of damage," said Fidel Perez, who owns the restaurant with his wife. "It's really hard right now."

The neighborhood restaurant, which started as a Cuban sandwich shop, opened in 2008 and expanded in 2010.

Perez said he expects the restaurant will be closed for two or three days while repairs are done.

"The restaurant is completely damaged," he said.
