Logan Square Honors Prince, Jumpman Style

LOGAN SQUARE — It hasn't taken long for Chicago's artists to pay their respects to Prince.

Two Logan Square tributes to the late musician have popped up this week to mixed reactions.

The first: A sprawling mural visible only from the "L" by J4F Krew facing the Blue Line just northwest of the California stop.

The Prince Purple Rain tribute is on the same wall that the Frankie Knuckles mural was painted on last summer.

More recently, the ever-timely Bae Cutler displayed a Prince paste-up along Milwaukee Avenue on a boarded-up storefront just northwest of Fullerton in a full Jumpman pose.

Bae Cutler grabbed local spotlight last year with a roadside memorial to Derrick Rose and his knee complete with Rose wearing a crown of thorns, votive candles and a pair of crutches.

Not everyone on social media has been supportive of the Prince mural, with some calling for the work to be buffed including local rapper ShowYouSuck.

In other neighborhoods around the city, similar tributes have popped up, including a huge mural on Stony Island Avenue in Avalon Park and a penny tribute at the Garfield Park Conservatory.
