LINCOLN PARK — Give your mom the gift of a thriving garden this Mother's Day.

The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Dr., is hosting a "Plants For Pollinators Garden" sale Sunday, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

At the sale, mom can buy plants and flowers that help protect pollinators like bees, birds and butterflies. The selection will include 12 varieties of perennials and 12 varieties of annuals, many of them indigenous to Illinois.

According to the museum, the population of local pollinators is on the decline in the Chicago region. But pollinators are vital to maintaining a healthy ecosystem: They transfer pollen grains from one flower to another so plants can reproduce and produce fruits and seeds.

Honey bees, for example, are responsible for as much as $5.2 billion worth of agriculture production in the United States, according to the museum.

All proceeds from the sale will support the Nature Museum.

For more information, visit the museum's website or call 773-755-5100.
