CHICAGO — A 29-year-old man died and three other men were wounded in two shooting incidents in Austin on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The 29-year-old was one of two men shot in the 4900 block of West Monroe Street, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, Chicago Police spokesman.

At 1:52 p.m., the 29-year-old and an 18-year-old man were standing outside when someone walked up and opened fire before fleeing, Sweeney said. The 18-year-old man was shot in his back and leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Sweeney said.

The 29-year-old was shot in his chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Sweeney said. The man is a documented gang member, police said.

He has been identified as Antonio White, of the 700 block of North Harding Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. White was pronounced dead at 2:37 p.m. Tuesday.

At 3:15 p.m., a 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were shot in Austin, Sweeney said.

The two men were outside in the 200 block of North Lockwood Avenue when a man walked up and began firing, Sweeney said.

The 31-year-old was struck in his hip and was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition wasn't released but police said the man was stable. The 34-year-old man was struck in his back and was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was described as "stable."

Both shooting victims are documented gang members, police said.
