LINCOLN SQUARE — The Book Cellar is pulling out all the stops for Saturday's Independent Bookstore Day.

Among the special guests set to appear at the shop are a husband-and-wife team who know a little something about celebrating major occasions: Marc and Maureen Schulman of Eli's Cheesecake.

Marc's father founded Eli's, which has been the dessert of choice for special events including President Barack Obama's inauguration, Chicago's 150th birthday and the White Sox World Series win.

Maureen has penned "The Eli's Cheesecake Cookbook" — see, there is a tie to Bookstore Day — and the two will talk recipes and all things Eli's, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Book Cellar, 4736 N. Lincoln Ave.

The Schulmans could be a tough act to follow, but popular Chicago-based authors Rebecca Makkai ("The Hundred Year House") and Renee Rosen ("White Collar Girl," "What the Lady Wants") will have alcohol on their side.

The two will be slinging cocktails from the shop's Bloody Mary bar from 12:30-2 p.m.

Stick around for all-natural cotton candy from Spin-Spun from 2-4 p.m.

Throughout the day, special merchandise and discounts will be available. The first 10 shoppers to spend more than $30 will receive a free gift bag.

Chicago's first Independent Bookstore Day, inspired by a similar day in California, was founded three years ago as a way to promote the continued health of the city's small neighborhood bookstores.

The event has now gone national, with more than 400 bookstores across the country expected to participate on Saturday.

RoscoeBooks in Roscoe Village is among those joining in the fun, with activities planned all day long, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., 2142 W. Roscoe St.
