HYDE PARK — The Renaissance Society is dwelling on doubt for a new exhibit opening Sunday.

“Between the Ticks of the Clock” includes work from artists Kevin Beasley, Peter Downsbrough, Goutam Ghosh, Falke Pisano and Martha Wilson at the gallery at 5811 S. Ellis Avenue on the University of Chicago campus.

The exhibit brings together artists interested in the uncomfortable spaces left by work half done, how language and space interact and the uncertain foundations of mathematics.

“Rather than defining the concept or mapping its many manifestations, the exhibition traces how doubt can eat away at the foundation of understanding itself, calling into question the very possibility of knowledge or at least demanding recognition of its limitations,” said Curator Solveig Øvstebø in an announcement of the show.

An opening reception will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday with a performance at 5 p.m. by Kevin Beasley, who was commissioned to create a new performance and installation for the exhibit. His “Your face is/is not enough” piece is 12 sculptures incorporating gas masks and megaphones.

Several screenings and lectures are also scheduled during the exhibit’s run through June 26. A full schedule is available on the gallery’s web site.
