DOWNTOWN — Camping is coming back to Northerly Island.

The Chicago Parks Foundation will once again host "Camp Northerly Island" Aug. 19 at the city's newest Downtown park. The fundraiser, now in its second year, will allow guests to stay a night at the new nature refuge, drink beer, and play games with the city skyline as a backdrop.

"It's [now] one of our signature events," said Jennie Scheerer, a foundation spokeswoman.

The foundation debuted the fundraiser last year after the park, a 43-acre redo of a onetime city airport, opened to the public. Last year's camp included a comedy show, archery, and bag tosses. About 100 people attended.

This year's prices haven't been finalized, but Scheerer said the foundation is thinking $150 for people who bring their own tents, and $175 for people who need to rent one. There's capacity for about 300 campers, and proceeds will benefit the parks foundation.

Goose Island will be pouring beers, and a live band will play a show, Scheerer said.

More details will be revealed next month. Check out the foundation's website for more information.
