LINCOLN PARK — A crowned lemur family at the Lincoln Park Zoo is welcoming a new member into the world.

The infant was born April 17 at the Helen Brach Primate House, joining siblings Sava and Violana and parents Tucker and Sokkwi, the zoo announced Tuesday.

Because the yet-named newborn is clinging onto its mother, its sex has yet to be determined.

Crowned lemurs are considered endangered due to forest loss and mining, among other reasons, according to the zoo.

The animals are native to Madagascar, where they forage in the forest for fruits and leaves. They're named after the crown-like coloration on their heads, according to the zoo.

Visitors can see the lemur family on exhibit at the Helen Brach Primate House daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
