JEFFERSON PARK — A group designed to teach Far Northwest Side children with special needs how to ask for help from police will take its first tour of the Jefferson Park (16th) Police District Headquarters, organizers said.

Spots on the tour with CJ Protects, set to take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, are still available, said co-founder Victoria Benson.

"The tour will be fast paced with multiple activities to meet the needs of our special needs community," Benson said.

The effort was sparked by the brief disappearance of Benson's son C.J. in September.

The tour of the police district headquarters, 5151 W. Milwaukee Ave., is an attempt to familiarize children with special needs, including Autism, as well as their parents with the station — and officers, Benson said.

The tour will include a role-play scenario at the front desk as well as coloring and story time, Benson said.

Parents will get tips from officers on how to help keep their kids safe, Benson said.

A police roll call will take place during the tour at 2 p.m., Benson said.

Tours are expected to take place throughout the year, Benson said.
