COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — An Indiana man was held on $450,000 bail Tuesday following a Grand Crossing shooting.

Cornell Wyrick, 24, is charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm in the Sunday attack, which happened about 10:15 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Prairie Avenue.

According to police, Wyrick was arguing with a 20-year-old man when Wyrick took out a gun and fired it, hitting the victim in his stomach and leg.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the victim was still in critical condition with a bullet fragment near his heart, prosecutors said. He is being treated at Stroger Hospital.

Wyrick has a prior armed-robbery conviction, according to prosecutors. Court records place his home address in Indianapolis.

Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan on Tuesday set bail at $450,000.

Wyrick's defense attorney said Wyrick works in Indiana, but was born and raised in Chicago and still has ties to the city. Wyrick has two children, the attorney said.
