WOODLAWN — A man and a woman were wounded in shootings in the Woodlawn neighborhood early Saturday and early Sunday, police said.

Most recently, around 4:50 a.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old man was inside Sammy's Grill & Restaurant, 6359 S. King Dr., when three men walked in and announced a robbery, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman, and employees.

One of the men took his jewelry, Estrada said, then another man shot at him before all three of them fled.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, Estrada said, where he was treated for gunshot wounds in his left arm, left hand and left ankle.

Sajid Nadeem, a cashier at Sammy's, said a similar incident happened at his restaurant earlier this year, and "many, many" times before that.

"In this neighborhood, it just happens," Nadeem said. "There's nothing we can do about it. That's why we never, ever come out from behind this bulletproof glass here."

Around 8:20 a.m. Saturday morning, a 28-year-old woman was shot about five blocks away, in the 6400 block of South Langley Avenue, police said.

Police said the woman was arguing with another woman when the other woman pulled out a gun and shot her in her right knee.

The woman was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where her condition was "stable," police said.

No one is in custody for either shooting, police said.
