CHICAGO — A 23-year-old woman shot in West Elsdon on Friday has died from her injuries, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

At 7:03 p.m. Friday, Lauren Membreno was sitting in the front passenger's seat of a parked car in the 5400 block of South Karlov Avenue when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire on the car the woman was in, police said.

Membreno, of the 5300 block of South Spaulding Avenue, was hit in her head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was in critical condition, Estrada said. She died at 5:37 p.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner.

Membreno's boyfriend was driving the car she was in, police said, and officers think he was the intended target of the shooting.
