RIVER NORTH — The Green Door Tavern, 678 N. Orleans St., opened for business as usual Sunday after a hit-and-run left three people hurt and caused minor damage earlier that morning, police and employees said.

Around 12:40 a.m., a blue Toyota sedan ran a red light at the intersection of Orleans Street and Huron Street and collided with a gray Toyota, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The gray car then smashed into the side of the bar, hurting two pedestrians, Sedevic said.

Police said the driver and passengers of the blue car all fled the scene after the incident.

Both pedestrians, plus the driver of the gray car, were taken to area hospitals and treated for non life-threatening injuries, Sedevic said.

Those struck — a man and a woman, police said — had been standing outside smoking when the car came hurdling toward them, according to Crystal Bishop, a manager at The Green Door Tavern. The worst injury suffered was a broken leg, she said.

The car also caused some damage to one side of the bar's outdoor patio, but "nothing too serious," Bishop added.

The Green Door Tavern opened at its usual time Sunday, she said, but the affected side of the patio will remain closed until the damage is fixed.
