UPTOWN — Continuing his efforts to revitalize safety in the area, Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) announced Second Fridays on Argyle, an initiative aimed at drawing residents to businesses along the stretch as construction on Argyle Street continues.

From 6-9 p.m. Friday, the first Second Friday on Argyle will take place featuring Miss Saigon, which took over the former King of Thai Noodles and Rice, at 1129 W. Argyle St. in March. Mentioning Argyle Neighbors will get customers a free appetizer with their meals, a press release for the event said.

"In our efforts to improve safety in and around Argyle, it is important to bring people together. The opportunity to bring neighbors to restaurants on Argyle, to enjoy each others company and dine together seemed like a great idea," Osterman said.

"Our goal is to continue this once a month and grow the number of neighbors that will be joining us.  In addition to food, we will talk about ways to improve safety and improve our community. This summer will see the completion of the streetscape, return of the Night Market and other fun activities, all are designed to improve our neighborhood overall."

Miss Saigon features dishes that are "basically some of the stuff my wife misses" from Vietnam, said owner Vincent Le of Albany Park. "We're doing it a little different than some of the other restaurants around here that have 300 dishes on their menu."

The menu features fewer dishes to focus on keeping the ingredients fresh. Items on the menu are mostly priced around $10.

The menu includes pho, spring rolls, egg rolls, fried meatballs, Asian wings, butterfly shrimp, shrimp rolls, Saigon rolls, French fries, crab Rangoons, bao, salads, Banh Mi, clay pot fried rice, pork chop over rice and beef short ribs. For more information on the restaurant click here.

This year, Osterman has ramped up police patrols along Argyle Street ahead of the completion of the Argyle Streetscape.

"When the streetscape is done we're going to roll out the red carpet and invite everyone in the city to Argyle," Osterman said at a community meeting touting the crime strategy, which is a work in progress but would lead to "better quality of life ... from a community standpoint."
