HYDE PARK — Thomas Frank will return to Hyde Park, where he founded The Baffler magazine, for a reading and conversation about his new book.

Frank will read from “Listen, Liberal: Or Whatever Happened to the Party of the People?” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone Ave.

Frank came to Hyde Park in 1988 to work on a doctorate in history at the University of Chicago and stayed until 2003. He is one of the many writers and thinkers associated with Hyde Park’s specific brand of progressive politics.

His new book explores the problems in the Democratic Party and its failure to move liberal causes forward despite the party’s frequent control of the White House and Congress. It’s both a history of the party and the rising influence of money and corporate and cultural elitism.

The event is free and open to the public.

Copies of Frank’s book will be available at 57th Street Books and the Seminary Cooperative Bookstore.
