HYDE PARK — The Seminary Cooperative Bookstore is holding a celebration in honor of Jewish studies professor Michael Fishbane on Tuesday.

The bookstore at 5751 S. Woodlawn Ave. will celebrate the University of Chicago professor at 6 p.m. during the release of a new book about his work, “Michael Fishbane: Jewish Hermeneutical Theology.”

Fishbane has been a Guggenheim fellow, received a lifetime achievement award from the National Foundation for Jewish Culture and has written numerous books about religion and theology, including “Biblical Interpretation in Ancient Israel,” “Biblical Myth and Mythmaking” and “The Kiss of God: Spiritual and Mystical Death in Judaism.”

The event is free and open to the public.
