Attempted Armed Purse-Snatching Near Nichols Park Prompts Police Warning

HYDE PARK — The University of Chicago Police are warning people to be cautious around Nichols Park after an attempted armed robbery just east of the park on Saturday afternoon.

According to university police, a university staff member was walking near 54th Place and Dorchester Avenue at 1 p.m. Saturday when a man with a handgun tried to grab her purse.

The woman was able to hold on to her purse as the man ran to a waiting car.

The woman wasn’t injured, according to police.
