CHICAGO — A 56-year-old man was found dead in Bart's Coins and Collectibles on Friday night, police said.

At 5 p.m., police were told there was a broken window at a small shop in the 3900 block of North Pulaski Road, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. Officers investigating saw the store's front window had been broken.

Officers got into the store and found a 56-year-old with multiple injuries in the back of the shop, Estrada said. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Petro Rymar of the 4900 block of North Avers Street. He died of multiple "sharp force" injuries and his death was ruled a homicide, the morgue said.

Police originally thought the man's wounds were from a shooting, Estrada said.

On Saturday, one of the front windows of Bart's was broken and covered with plywood and a sticker from the Medical Examiner's Office was on the door. A bright green sign that said "COIN SHOP" was encircled by red police tape.

Next door, barber Sean Santo said a customer heard the banging as Bart's window was broken on Friday, but they didn't realize what had happened until later.

Santo didn't know the man who was killed, but said he and Bart's owner say "hello" to each other and the coin shop doesn't get much foot traffic. The owner of Bart's has to "buzz" customers in and the door locks automatically, Santo said.

The murder was "pretty shocking" because the area's safe, Santo said.

"It's just shocking that it was right here," he said.

Down the street, a store owner said he didn't know the man who was killed but the store had been under new management for about a year. The area's not dangerous, he said, though he'd heard of robberies.

There is an ongoing murder investigation, Estrada said.
